Book 3 Stockton Wolves series – can be read as standalone. Complete story.

Roan didn’t expect to be put in a jail cell by the man who was meant to be his mate. But it wasn’t as though his life had ever been easy. In his world Omega wolves were sold as soon as they became useful, and he’d been trained his whole life in the arts of keeping a clean house and a Master happy. Unfortunately for him, being looked after was the last thing his mate seemed to want or need.

Mace was happy enough in his life. Women seemed attracted to his bad boy looks and his surly attitude. They never stuck around, but then he was married to his job, so he didn’t mind being alone at nights. And he had a pack. Okay, that wasn’t something he’d been raised to believe in, but he’d spent enough time with Shane and Dimitri and the rest of the guys to know they were like anyone else. They just sprouted fur on occasion, and ran on four legs instead of two. So when Dimitri confronted him with the fact that the cute little shifter he’d booked the day before was his mate, he had a lot of thinking to do – dealing with man bits was the least of his problems. He was pretty sure he didn't want or need a mate, period.

A serial killer with blond women in his sights, a whole host of misunderstandings, and the protective antics of Kalel, the cutest little cat shifter in existence, are just some of the hurdles these two men are going to have to overcome before they can have their HEA.

Warning contains an Omega shifter who will break your heart, a gruff human detective who has a lot to learn about mates, and a pack that works overtime to keep their members safe. Contains M/M intimate situations and off page references to child abuse. If these are triggers for you, please don’t buy. As always, no cheating, no cliffhangers and an HEA guaranteed.

Mace is a detective on the police force, working with Dimitri and Shane. As a human he's aware of shifters. He was raised in foster homes then worked for the police force, has a wrestler build but never visits the gym. He seems mid 40's with paying off his home, being debt free, and his years of working for the police. A young guy doesn't achieve all that nor does he make detective. And that's about it on Mace's character which is rather shallow as this is his story. Due to his commitment to the job, he's never had a steady relationship. He puts in long hours and he's never found someone that will put up with his personality and job. He must be a lonely guy as he only has his one friend and work partner in Trent.

Roan is an omega wolf shifter. He's led a rough life and has been homeless for 2 years. In an odd twist of fate he recognizes Mace as his mate. Mace and Roan have a long ways to go in their relationship. This is one story where it takes a pack to cement a mating.

Roan is not a strong confident omega wolf. Oh no, that doesn't happen until the epilogue. .. . And I wished it happened sooner. But overcoming his fears and adjusting to a different life took time. The odd thing was Mace was never there to help Roan and I wished he did. Instead it was Kalel or the pack. Sometimes it was Roan standing on his own trying to be strong -- Just like he's always done. Yes it is sad that the one motivator in his life was finding his mate and then everything would be rosy. But that didn't happen, either. Mace wanted to be there for Roan but he was putting in those long hours. What time they spend together is usually in the sack and while that takes care of needs and builds the bond, it doesn't make Roan into a new person -- Just the opposite.

I appreciate an author that takes a real life experience and shares it. That takes guts because in this case it's domestic abuse.

So there's a lot going on in this story. Martin talked to Roan about 'his mission' and we learn the case is more than just a serial killer. Is there a bigger conspiracy going on? If the DA is pulling strings what else is happening? Those questions prompted me to write this review because I wonder if Trent's story will go into those details. - Dan's Wife

Mace Awakening Stockton Wolves Book 3 edition by Lisa Oliver Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Another lovely read from Lisa Oliver. This is come-out-forcefully-out-of-closet-you-have-never-been-in story. I don't normally like GFY stories but this one had all my favorite characters and I could not help but root for Roan, sweet sweet young man - so misguided and used by everybody...just heart-breaking. Mace the silent type is somewhat of a mean b....d in the beginning but I can see where he was coming from. So the fact that he took his time and thought things through was very good and responsible. I liked that, no rush to mate.

There were plenty misunderstandings and sweet moments that made this book a very satisfying read. It was the pack itself as much as the MCs that made this book special - their bonds and just that family feel were very comforting. A wonderful book!
This might be one of Lisa Oliver’s best because she took no prisoners she grabbed me by the throat with her skillful description of scenes using all five (and sometimes six) senses. The description of the jail cell was heartbreaking, and I felt everything as if I were there, hiding in Roan's pocket. I could smell the yeasty fragrance of the bread when the boys were baking, and the tangy scent of old blood in the concrete basement.

Without a doubt, this is my favorite quote; it’s so visceral and I cried every time I read it! "Roan felt his head swim and he tried to control his breathing; the feelings of being trapped, scared, unwanted and tired – he was so freaking tired. He couldn’t catch a breath. His heart was beating out of his chest and his wolf surged, trying to protect him. Roan knew he shouldn’t shift; knew he mustn’t let his wolf out…but he couldn’t breathe, couldn’t see…."

Roan and Kalel, Roan's new (and first) best friend, are so cute together and the driving lesson stories were a hoot; so glad Roan has a friend.

Lisa Oliver pulled Mace and Roan through the wringer; it was her duty as a writer. I was sucked into their drama, but I knew they'd (eventually) get their HEA. I was on a darned roller coaster ride, experiencing the highs and lows, the happy and the sad times. And I loved every blinking minute.
Ms. Oliver's is an automatic buy for me. I have never been lead astray by her books and this one is no exception. Mace and Roan make a wonderful couple. Mace is a police detective who is rough around the edges but has a heart of gold. He is becoming disillusioned with the force and is more lonely than he realizes. Enter Roan, a young naive omega who just wants to be safe, comforted and loved. He takes everything quite literally . Mace manages to put his foot in his mouth many times, one time to the point where Roan runs away. Leading to a hilarious scene where Mace comments that he will probably be putting his foot in his mouth again, repeatedly. Roan then asks Mace
“Can you really do that?” He asked. “Put your foot in your mouth, I mean. I can’t do that in human form, only when I’ve got four feet. Can you show me? Does it hurt?”
Of course they get their HEA but there are a few bumps in the road, and hurt feelings that could have been avoided if they had just talked but that is life and Ms. Oliver is great at writing about life situations and real feelings.
The twists in the plot were fresh and energizing.
I look forward to reading Trent's story. And as for Trent, I'm glad Mace had a friend good enough to literally knock some sense into Mace as need.
It was also nice to see the guys from the first three books and how much they rallied around not just Roan but Mace too. Kalel is a true and fierce friend to Roan and has really come into his own and out of his shell. It was also nice to see a softer side to Dominic.
Once again a great book, I would and HAVE recommended it already to friends and family. Please keep up the amazing writing.
